Pay: $13.00 hour, Part-Time.
Responsibilities: (these duties include but are not limited to the following):
- Greets guests, escorts them to tables, and provides menus.
- Adjusts complaints of patrons.
- Assigns work tasks and coordinates activities of dining room personnel to ensure prompt and courteous service to patrons. Inspects dining room serving stations for neatness and cleanliness, and requisitions table linens and other dining room supplies for tables and serving stations.
- May prepare beverages and expedite food orders Coordinates activities of dining room personnel to provide fast and courteous service to patrons.
- Schedules dining reservations and arranges parties or special services for diners.
- Make sure all menus are wiped down, free of spots or stains, and complete.
- Make sure entry doors are clean, free of debris and inviting.
- Check with the phone receptionist or answering machine messages to ensure you have all reservations.
- Check with the manager to ensure there are no large or private parties you do not know about.
- Check with the kitchen to see where they stand. See if they are behind or if they are out of anything.
- Plan out the seating chart and organize the reservations (planning is everything when running an effective host stand).
- Greet guests, escort them to their table, pull seats out for the ladies, and present menus.
- Make sure the server is aware they have been sat.
- Keep the counts for individual server so things come out fair at the end of the night.
- Keep in constant contact with the servers and the kitchen to make sure you are not putting them in the weeds. A host/hostess job description does not include running a smooth shift, but it does separate the good from the great. A large part of the night’s effectiveness is orchestrated from the host/hostess stand.
- Keep an eye out that the dining room, entryway, bathrooms, and menus are kept clean throughout operations.
- Say good-bye to all the guests. Check to see that everything was wonderful. Not only is the host/hostess the first impression the guests get when they come to an establishment, they are also the last. You should check with every guest and if there was any kind of problem quickly get a manager.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Pleasant personality with good communication skills, proper service techniques and the ability to work under pressure.
- Attention to detail and knowledge of P.O.S.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
